Acne is characterized by the presence of pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. It can affect the face, neck, chest and back. Acne occurs when oil and dead skin cells become trapped within the hair follicle, creating a plug within the pore. As the breakout progresses and bacteria begins to invade, the follicle wall eventually ruptures creating inflammation and redness.
