Cheek & Chin Enhancement with Hyaluronic Acid
What is Cheek and Chin Enhancement?
Cheek and chin enhancement uses soft natural fillers to replenish lost volume, improve the shape of the face, and define important features beautifully. Patients regain a youthful curve to the cheeks and midface ”the so-called ogee curve”and the overall shape is more attractive and heart-shaped. Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm Voluma plump the tissues, creating a softer, more youthful appearance.
Most people underestimate the importance of the chin in aesthetics. A weak chin can cause a heavy, imbalanced look to the lower face. It also effects the definition of the jawline. By restoring volume and strengthening the chin, proportions and beauty are enhanced, the jawline improves, and even lax tissue on the neck can be lifted.
Why should I consider enhancement for my cheeks or chin?
Aging in the face is predominantly due to loss of volume in the various fat compartments under the skin. This is particularly noticeable under the eyes and in the cheeks. The bones are also shrinking so that the chin loses its prominence and the jowls begin to sag over the jawline. By restoring lost volume, the tissues are lifted and the shadows and hollows disappear. The shape of the face improves and the jawline becomes more defined. Even the neck improves when the chin is projected, without looking done or puffy.
Unfortunately, some of us do lose chin definition as the aging process progresses. Skeletal recession and facial atrophy (slow-rate muscle shrinkage) are especially unkind to weak chins. Enhancement dramatically improves the contour of the chin area in affected patients. Fillers are not only able to bring the chin forward for those with receding chins, but also make it sharper and/or longer for those with short, small chins.
What do the procedures involve?
In both cases, the facial filler is delivered in an artistic way to enhance contouring. Local anaesthetic is used to make the procedure very comfortable. Results are visible immediately. A few hours after the procedure you are free to apply make-up and continue with your daily routine as normal.
What are the risks associated with use of hyaluronic acid fillers?
Hyaluronic acid fillers have a very high safety record, particularly since they are composed of naturally occurring molecules, found in skin, joints, and eyes. The most common side effect is mild bruising and swelling. To reduce the chance of bruising, discontinue supplements of Vitamin E and fish oils, as well as herbal supplements, the week before your appointment. If you are taking aspirin, warfarin or other blood thinners, you should discuss your treatment with Dr Prendergast beforehand. Arnica tablets afterwards will help those who are especially prone to bruising.
How long do results last?
You can expect fillers in the cheeks and chin to last up to 18 months, with slight variations based on individual metabolism and the filler used.
