Fat Transfer – How to Look Younger, Using What Nature Gave You
What is Fat Transfer?
Fat transfer is an advanced and revolutionary means of facial rejuvenation. Fat is taken from an area of the body where there is excess, and gently injected into different regions of the face to plump, contour and enhance. Since your own fat is used, it is natural, soft and without risk of allergic reaction. Using skill and advanced techniques, your doctor can restore youthful contours, with the potential to make you look many years younger.
How can this help in my desire to look younger?
If you have considered undergoing a facial rejuvenation procedure but don’t think you are ready for a face lift or other form of facial plastic surgery, you may wish to investigate facial fat injections.
Most patients that present for rejuvenation procedures don’t want to look different, but rather, want to look like they used to. With fat transfer, not only is this achieved, but it is a process that utilises your own body fat. Using what nature gave you eliminates the risk of rejection or allergic reactions. Since fat is living tissue, it has the potential to last a long time.
In general, candidates for fat transfer are adults who feel they look tired, gaunt, or who want to restore the shape and youthful contours they enjoyed ten or fifteen years previously. It is an effective option for those who do not want cutting surgery and are not keen on having fillers. The entire face can be revolumised with fat, including the cheeks, under the eyes, chin and jawline, and temples.
How is it performed?
The first step involves the gentle removal of some excess fat from the thighs or tummy under local anaesthesia. This fat is then carefully processed to make it more pure. The soft, clean fat is then transferred to small syringes. The face is numbed with local anaesthetic, and the fat is very carefully and precisely injected into the treatment areas. Meticulous care is taken to preserve the fat and place it into the face using tiny volumes at a time. Improper technique can easily damage the fragile fat cells.
The anti-aging effects of fat grafting are dramatic. Fat grafting helps to naturally set back the clock. While fat grafting is one of the most artistically demanding of all cosmetic surgical procedures, it gives the patients the opportunity to naturally restore their youthful appearance without looking surgical or showing the signs of surgery.
Is there downtime?
Yes, you will have swelling and some bruising for a couple of weeks after the fat grafting procedure, althought the amount of downtime depends on the extent and area of treatment. More swelling occurs if the whole face is treated or volume around the eyes has been restored. If the cheeks only have been treated, swelling is less prominent and settles down more quickly.
